Nex PvM Guide
  • Nex is quite possibly the hardest non-custom boss in Playworld with the only possible competition coming from the QBD. That being said, the drops are also some of the most desired drops. If you follow this guide, Nex solos are very possible even with lower level gear. Note that there is a video at the end of this guide, but reading the guide first will allow you to understand the video. The video is not meant to be used in place of the guide, and most of the video will only be beneficial if you have read the guide.

    Gear:
Below are some potential gear setups that will be useful for Nex. The first setup will allow for three kills in one inventory, while the second will allow for two, and the third for one. The majority of the items in the first setup require donor status to wear, but the other two setups do not require donor status.

    Inventory:
Below are three potential inventory setups. These will depend on your preference as well as your gear setup. The first image shown includes dragon claws as a special attack weapon, as well as special restore potions, which will only be needed if using a special attack weapon. The second image shows an inventory for the first gear setup without a special attack weapon. This setup has three sanfew serum flasks to counteract the divine spirit shield's prayer-draining effect. The third image shows an inventory for the second two setups. This image only includes one sanfew serum because these two setups do not include a divine spirit shield. A special attack weapon could be added to the third inventory, along with 1-2 special restore potions in place of some saradomin brew flasks.

    Getting There
Getting to Nex is very simple. Talk to Ariane at ::home, and select bosses. Nex is the first boss on the list of boss teleports.

    Preparation:
At this point it is a good time to check to make sure that you are on normal prayers. Normal prayers give a higher range boost along with a higher defense boost than leech range and leech defense (from curses). This is also a good time to Bonfire. If you don't know how to Bonfire, click here for my Bonfire guide. When you are ready, drink a dose of both your overload and prayer renewal, eat some food to restore your health, and then bank with the banker located at Nex. After your inventory is prepared, click the landslide to the east of the Nex teleport location to enter the boss room.

    The Fight:
    General Information:

The fight is based largely on the players ability to lure Nex onto their cannon. I have soloed Nex before without any armor or weapons simply using cannon lures. In the screenshots provided I will outline the square where the cannon should be placed in black, and any lure steps in red square with red numbers in order of where to step. In order to successfully lure Nex onto your cannon, here are a few tips.
    (1) When you get Nex onto your cannon, always stand within melee range of your cannon. This will cause Nex to remain on your cannon unless she momentarily teleports back to the middle.
    (2) If Nex is one square away from the middle of your cannon, it is often possible to push Nex onto your cannon by standing under her. There are examples of this tactic in the blood phase description as well as the ice phase.
    (3) When Nex says "There is..." she is about to teleport back to the middle. At this point it is generally time to move so that when Nex teleports back she is in a good location for her attacker to lure her back onto the cannon. The location to which a player should move varies depending on the phase, and will be represented as a blue square in the screenshots.
    (4) When killing the minions, I click as far into the corner with the minion as possible and place my cannon while running toward that corner. This allows the user to place their cannon as close to each minion as possible. Please note that in order to place the cannon in these locations, placing the cannon on the run is often necessary.
    (5) Using the quest tab to retrieve the cannon will generally help speed up kills and make movements more efficient.

    Smoke Phase:
The smoke phase at Nex is the easiest of five phases. Here, you will place your cannon in the middle and protect against magic. The cannon placement square is shown below. Place your cannon and stand within melee range of Nex so that she stays on it, and begin attacking. When Nex says "Fumus, don't fail me!" it is time to move to the northwest corner of the boss room in order to kill Fumus (remember to bring your cannon and place it according to the 4th tip included in general information). During this phase it is possible that Nex will deal poison damage. If poisoned, remember that sanfew serums double as both antiposion and super restores. As Fumus dies, Nex will say "Darken my shadow!" at which point the shadow phase begins.

The cannon location for the first minion is shown below.

    Shadow Phase:
The shadow phase is the only phase that requires a different protection prayer. During the shadow phase, players should protect against range. This is the most dangerous phase, so players should keep their health at a safe level as much as possible. At the beginning of this phase, Nex will say "Embrace darkness!" and the player's screen will darken slightly. Also during this phase, Nex occasionally says "Fear the shadow!" which causes dark circles to appear under each player in the room. These circles will "explode" into a shadow attack on that square dealing a lot of damage to any player standing there. Therefore, if Nex says "Fear the shadow!" and there is a dark circle under your player, it is time to move away from that square fast (the shadow attack is shown below). Take note of the second tip under general information as it sometimes is useful on this stage, but not always. The cannon location for this stage is shown below. As Nex says "Umbra, don't fail me!", it is time to move your cannon to Umbra, who is located in the northeast corner of the boss room. When Nex says "Fill my lungs with blood!", the blood phase has begun.
Cannon spot shown below (remember, the blue square is explained in the third tip in general information).

    Blood Phase:
Remember to switch back to protect against magic at the beginning of this phase. Your prayers will remain the same for the rest of the Nex kill. During this phase, Nex has two special attacks that you may need to know about. The first is her siphon attack. This attack is actually sort of the opposite of an attack, because Nex doesn't deal any damage during it. However, for the few seconds that this attack lasts, Nex will absorb all the damage done to her and heal from it. The siphon attack begins with Nex saying "A siphon will solve this!" The second attack is her blood sacrifice attack. This attack will target one player, and the player will be momentarily clothed in red robe bottoms, a red wizard hat, and a blue cloak. Similar to the shadow attack, if the player moves away from their current square the attack won't do anything. Unlike the shadow attack, this attack drains the player's prayer instead of their health. After placing the cannon, general information (2) is used to push Nex onto the cannon (shown below). When Nex says "Cruor, don't fail me!", it is time to move to the southeast corner and kill Cruor. After Cruor dies, Nex will say "Infuse me with the power of ice!", marking the beginning of the ice phase.

    Ice Phase:
Luckily there aren't any special attacks for this phase other than Nex's freeze attack, which is basically an ice barrage. This can be fairly annoying, but doesn't require any real explanation. The cannon spot here is one of my favorites, and is shown below. When Nex says "Glacies, don't fail me!", head to the southwest corner of the boss room and kill Glacies. Similar to the phase before it, there is an example of general information (2) used on this stage, which is included in the pictures for this section. As Glacies dies, Nex will say "NOW, THE POWER OF ZAROS!", and the final phase will begin.

    Cannon spot shown below.

The next two pictures are a demonstration of general information (2).
Nex will usually not be directly on your cannon here, but there's an easy fix for that. Stand where I am in the picture and wait for Nex to melee.
...and then step here, pushing Nex onto your cannon.

    Final Phase:
This phase is also fairly quick and easy with a great cannon spot that has an easy lure to go along with it. In this phase the blue square (explained in general information (3)) also doubles as the first step to the lure for this phase. After placing the cannon, step to the red square labeled 1, and wait for Nex to melee. After Nex melees, step to the red square labeled 2. Remember to step back to the blue square when Nex says "There is...", and teleports back to the middle. When Nex teleports back, move back to the red square labeled 2 in order to redo the lure. As Nex dies, she will say "Taste my wrath!" and will momentarily use the prayer wrath to damage players around her.

I wish you the best of luck with your Nex kills and the loot associated with them.

    Text Notes:
Familiar Usage (or lack of it):

You may be wondering why I didn't include a familiar in any of the descriptions or pictures. The lack of familiar can be explained by the importance of a cannon. During Nex kills, luring Nex onto your cannon is key when doing efficient kills. The use of a combat familiar will often times pull Nex off of the lure spots, slowing down the kill. A BoB familiar such as a yak could be used, but the cannon is picked up and replaced so often that the take BoB items command wouldn't be very effective seeing as it would fill your inventory with brews leaving no room for the cannon. A unicorn is potentially the best option in this situation, but Nex has high damage rates. The high damage rates make healing aura scrolls relatively ineffective in the long run.
